... and I'm not feeling so good myself ....

Arthur C. Clarke died, aged 90. Recognized globally as one of the great science fiction writers of all time. Best known, I suppose, for co-writing 2001: A Space Odyssey, still the greatest science fiction film. I interviewed Sir Arthur in 1971 or 1972 (don't think I still have a copy of that article) and found him to be gracious and charming and especially patient.

Anthony Minghella died, aged 54. The Academy Award winning director of English Patient, Talented Mr. Ripley, Cold Mountain and others apparently died from complications caused by surgery for tonsil cancer.

Generalissimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

Comments:
Anthony Minghella also directed a few of the early 'Morse' episodes.

but his legacy lives on in Spain

wasn't Clarke into abusing/playing with small boys on the island? If he was, he's going to go to HELL!!!

Minghella also did a lot of script editing for Grange Hill!!

What a guy!!

Quoting anonymous: "wasn't Clarke into abusing/playing with small boys on the island?"

No. Those allegations false; a police investigation cleared him.

I sort of agree with 'anonomous'. I think he might have been a kiddyfiddler.

Quoting Jim: "I sort of agree with 'anonomous'. I think he might have been a kiddyfiddler."

And yet there's no evidence that he was! Brilliant!

It is a good thing you can't slander the dead. Legally speaking.

I had a squadron mate who met Clarke in Sri Lanka back in 1983. He said he was very gracious and even autographed one of his books for him.

His work was absolutley brilliant in my humble opinion

As the acknowledged originator of the comunications satellite, Clarke has done more than most people (certainly most politicians) to shape the times we live in.
